Legalize Hemp and Cannabis in California

Hi Family,

Right now there are two competing signature drives to put Cannabis legalization initiatives on the ballot in California in

November 2010.

One is found at www.taxcannabis2010.org

The other is found at www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org

Please look carefully at the text of both laws (the text of each is finalized) and make up your own mind which one you support.

I am supporting www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org because our law will protect Cannabis users from discrimination in

healthcare, employment, and housing. It is a full legalization measure for industrial hemp and recreational cannabis which will restore full human rights to Hemp farmers and Cannabis users all across California. Of course supplying Cannabis to children will remain illegal just as it is today. Driving vehicles under the influence will remain illegal just as it is today. Cannabis users will still be fired from their jobs if they show up to work impaired.

There are two parts to our plan. The first part is to publicly post and personally distribute our "Freedom Lover's Call to Arms" in order to recruit volunteers. This document is available here-

The second part of our plan is to ask everyone who volunteers to make a pledge for how many signatures they can collect in

the next 30 days or so. 15-30 signatures is a good number. If enough volunteers show this level of commitment we can succeed. You can probably get that number from your family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors without having to solicit in public too much. This is an "out of the closet" movement. We will have to proudly advocate human rights for responsible, honest, hard-working Cannabis smokers in order to convince legitimate people to support us. I can supply stickers equivalent to each persons pledge number. These stickers can be used to generate interest and be given to voters who sign the petition. Here is the sticker design-

We have 145 days in order to get the number of signatures that we need. Our petition is hot off the press on 9/11 and we

have started collecting the first signatures yesterday 9/12.

We are polling 56% public support for Cannabis legalization in California which menas that this is an initiative which is not doomed. Its time has finally arrived; we are at the tipping point right now. Now is the time to do this and to do it right. We may only get one chance. If a law which is not exactly what we want is implemented then we may lose our critical mass and our ability to set it right.

I believe that less adults will smoke cannabis after it is legal. This is the case in the Netherlands where it has been

available over-the-counter for 30 years yet only half as many citizens (percentage-wise) smoke as do citizens here. My economics professor has taught for years that prohibition has not succeeded in decreasing usage by increasing penalties. Instead it has destroyed lives and families without substantial benefit to society. After legalization hard-drug usage will decrease due to a "separation of the markets," a decline in the price of Cannabis relative to hard-drugs, and the restoration of honesty and common sense in drug education. Violence, thievery, and the incarceration of honest people will decrease as well. I also believe that a well regulated market will decrease the availability and appeal of cannabis to children. In fact teenage Cannabis use in California has fallen steadily since the passage of Proposition 215. Furthermore the adults who smoke Cannabis after legalization will be better able appreciate the majesty of nature in peace and unity without learning to fear and disrespect authority figures. This will be better for their spirits and better for society. Finally the human rights of legitimate medical Cannabis patients will be better protected than they are today. Legalizing Cannabis will create a safer, healthier, and more humane California for us all to live in.

Beautify Our Town!

One of the excellent ideas to come out of this year's KallistiCon is the BOT project. In short, we have chosen a small town in the midwestern United States that we are going to beautify, Discordian style. Discordians have done some excellent concerted jakes in the past, usually aimed at businesses or governmental bodies. We thought, why not a town? Why not up the weirdness quotient for a whole town?

We have chosen a town. We have a specific project. We need your help.

We are in the preparation stage right now, and the project will commence on August 23rd, the Day of Discord.

Who: You! And your friends!

Where: The location will be disclosed to people who join the project via the project mailing list. We are in the process of compiling a database of addresses.

When: Starting August 23rd, and then on the 9th and 23rd of the month for the next six months.

Why: For the lulz. To make the world a weirder place. To find fellowship amongst freaks.

What: This is a letter writing campaign. Write a letter to someone as if you had bought a product from them, and you are writing to express how happy or unhappy you are with it. Please, get creative! You may have purchased a goat harness and found yourself unhappy that the goat didn't come included, or find yourself extremely satisfied with your new dildo cozy since it keeps your dildo so toasty warm. Aim for the ridiculous! Once you've written a letter you're happy with, print out five or ten copies and send them to different people.

For right now, join the mailing list to hear more as the date approaches. We'll send you contact info for residents of Our Town and a few sample letters. You'll also get to read letters other people are sending out, and be in on our other BOT projects.

Monday 23 April, 2007

In a surprise move today, the Discordian Society, a small neo-religious group which worships the Ancient Greek Deity of Chaos called "Eris" (and known to the Ancient Romans as "Discordia"), have announced that they have acquired the non-corporeal realm known as "Limbo".

Limbo, the theological concept previous belonging to the Christian Catholic Church, was abandoned by the Church last Friday.

Although the Discordian Society is anarchic in structure, a self-proclaimed spokesperson for the movement who identified himself only as "His Wholiness the Rev.DrJon" made the following statement:

The Discordian Society, in line with previous acquisitions, welcomes the arrival of Limbo into the fold. We look forward to giving the place a clean sweep, a good polish and a nice redecoration. We'd like to thank fellow Pope* Benedict XVI for making this opportunity possible. We'd also like to offer the hand of friendship to those tenants of Limbo who chose to stay. We assure all who do wish to stay that they are welcome to continue to reside in the manner to which they are accustomed, however we will also be undertaking a rolling series of improvements over the coming eons, which should see a marked increase in liveability benchmarks.

There is no word yet as to what purposes, if any, the Discordian Society plan to put Limbo to, however opinion is divided amongst the Discordian faithful.

Robert Anton Wilson Memorial Weekend

It's like KallistiCon, only sadder: the weekend traditionally known as "President's Day Weekend" this February (16-19) will host at least three Robert Anton Wilson memorial events in the San Francisco bay area, not to mention several other Discordian events.

That weekend also hosts PantheaCon, a huge neo-Pagan convention in San Jose, CA. This convention has long celebrated Discordianism with rituals and presentations, and is where I will be spending much of my weekend.

The memorials:

Saturday night is Discordian.com's annual PantheaCon Discordian ritual. We'd planned a Papal Inauguration to formally install everyone as Pope, and we feel that this is now more important than ever. We will also honor RAW's memory and works in full Discordian style (uh, what that means I'm still a little unsure, but I'll have it figured out - got any ideas? email me). Monday afternoon sometime is the PantheaCon RAW memorial run by the PantheaCon staff. Robert Anton Wilson came to speak at PantheaCon for several years in a row. This is where I gave him a Saint certificate in 1999, and also where I met a friend who has been instrumental in the PantheaCon rituals since the beginning. These are people who knew Bob, who had worked with him and talked with him many times, and I hope everyone who can make it out this weekend can make it to their memorial service too.

The weekend also promises other Discordian events including a Discordian time travel ritual done by a good friend of mine on Sunday night at PantheaCon, and a reprise of the presentation that Fox and I did recently in Berlin on Discordianism & Culture Jamming (also Monday afternoon).

The man who popularized Discordianism and created a juicy crazy paradigm for us to live in is dying. Yes, dying. What's worse is that he is dying peniless, though thankfully not alone. Robert Anton Wilson is dying, and so broke he cannot pay next month's rent.

The dwarf planet formerly known as Xena received a new name Thursday, while Pluto was given a number to reflect the loss of its status as a planet.
Michael E. Brown, a professor of planetary astronomy at the California Institute of Technology who discovered the distant ball of ice and rock that he nicknamed Xena, chose the name Eris, after the goddess of discord and strife in Greek mythology.

The International Astronomical Union made the name official Thursday.

"It is absolutely the perfect name," Brown said, given the continuing discord among astronomers and the public over whether Pluto should have retained its planetary status.

In mythology, Eris ignited discord that led to the Trojan War. "She causes strife by causing arguments among men," Brown said.

Pluto, now that it is no longer a planet, has been assigned the number 1340340 in the catalog of minor planets.

The discovery last year of Eris, which is slightly larger than Pluto and had been regarded by some as the solar system's 10th planet, led to the demotion and minor planet number of Pluto.

[High-resolution image ] A former employee of Liaoning Provincial Thrombosis Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine told The Epoch Times during a recent interview that the Sujiatun Concentration Camp in China was actually a part of a hospital. The concentration camp has engaged in taking organs from Falun Gong practitioners when they were still alive and selling the organs. Since 2001, the concentration camp has secretly detained approximately 6,000 Falun Gong practitioners, none of whom have been able to leave the camp alive. The hospital removed many kidneys, livers, and corneas from the practitioners. After the organ removal, the practitioners were thrown into an incinerator, which was converted from a boiler. Their ashes were dumped together with burned charcoal.

Organs from Three Quarters of the 6,000 People Were Removed
Those whose organs were removed were in various states of health. Because many of the victims were illegally detained, there was neither an arrest warrant nor identification as to who these people actually were. Often after their organs were removed, nobody claimed the bodies. Sometimes their bodies were picked up by crooks who pretended to be their family members.

About three-quarters of the 6,000 people died after their hearts, kidneys, corneas, or skin was removed; their bodies were then burned. This witness, whose family member participated in the removal of Falun Gong practitioners' organs, said that approximately 2,000 Falun Gong practitioners remain in the hospital. She was afraid that the authorities would kill all of them to destroy evidence.

The Liaoning Provincial Thrombosis Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine is located at 49 Xuesong Road, Sujiatun, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, China. It was the first hospital in China to specialize in the heart, the brain, and surrounding blood vessels. The hospital is composed of several organizations, including the Liaoning Traditional Chinese Medicine College Teaching Hospital and the Shenyang Thrombosis Treatment Center.

Concentration Camp Details
The hospital site is 21,087 square meters, with 17,564 square meters of building area. It employs 460 people in 24 departments and 20 specialized offices. Information from the Chinese government shows that the hospital was established in December 1988, and was formerly named the Shenyang Research Institute of Thrombosis and Liaoning Province Thrombosis Treatment Center of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine. In June 1998, it was renamed China Traditional Medicine Thrombosis Treatment Center.

The Chinese Business Morning View said in a story on July 4, 2004, that a farm worker died of abnormal causes in Sujiatun, Shenyang and was later cremated. The death certificate was provided by the Chinese Medicine Thrombosis Treatment Center in Sujiatun. The news caused a stir in China.

Epoch Times: Did the hospital's medical staff inside the concentration camp know about this?

Answer: This hospital has a small number of officials and some doctors involved secretively in the operation of organ harvesting. Some other staff in the hospital knew about this, but this is absolutely a taboo [to talk about]. They all are afraid of being killed or courting trouble, so they all avoid the issue. Only those highly trusted doctors could be chosen to be the surgeons for organ harvesting operations.

ET: Were Falun Gong practitioners alive when their organs were harvested? Did their families know about this?

Answer: Falun Gong practitioners who were imprisoned there came mostly from Dabei Prison, Masanjia Labor Camp, and other prisons in Shenyang, or they were Falun Gong practitioners arrested in parks or residential homes. Because they refused to denounce Falun Gong, they were arrested without formal warrants, and their families did not know their situation. Many did not even have their names [recorded]. In addition, since the Chinese authority exercises a policy of "not being responsible" for killing Falun Gong practitioners, the death of Falun Gong practitioners is not a very big issue for prisons. The Chinese Communist Party persecutes Falun Gong, [but] these medical personnel were told Falun Gong practitioners were facing death because they killed people, or they were sentenced to death because of crimes, or they had become insane from practicing Falun Gong.

Those Falun Gong practitioners whose organs were harvested came from several types.

Organs harvested from live bodies are worth far more than organs taken from dead bodies. Many Falun Gong practitioners were still alive when their organs were taken. After their organs were cut out, some of these people were thrown directly into the crematorium to be burnt, thus leaving no evidence. For some others, after their organs were stolen, the doctor sewed up the wound and asked the family or family representative to give a signature for cremation. Family members did not know at all that the dead had their organs taken out.

Furthermore, there were some healthy Falun Gong practitioners in prisons in other areas who were injected—without their knowledge—with psychoactive drugs that made their minds confused. They then were transferred to Sujiantun concentration camp to suffer further torture, till in the end their organs were harvested and their bodies were cremated in secret.

Among the Falun Gong practitioners whose organs were harvested, some were weak and some were healthy. Since most of them were illegally arrested, there were no arrest warrants or identification cards. After their organs were taken out while they were still alive, no one came to claim their bodies; or [sometimes] people using fake identities claimed their bodies.

None of these people have come out [of the concentration camp] alive; three-quarters of these 6,000 people have died, having their hearts, kidneys, retinas, and skins harvested and their bodies disposed of. I think now about 2,000 Falun Gong practitioners are still in this hospital, and I am afraid now that the authority will destroy all evidence and kill them.

Question: How did you know these things? Were you yourself a doctor involved in organ harvesting?

Answer: I worked at the Liaoning Provincial Thrombosis Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, Shenyang. This is exactly where this concentration camp is located. One of my family members was involved in the operation to harvest Falun Gong practitioners' organs. This has brought great pain to our family.

Question: Please tell us what you knew about.

Answer: From 2001, our hospital started to detain Falun Gong practitioners. At the beginning, these people were detained in the single-storey houses in the back yard of the hospital. Later, the hospital authorities demolished the single-storey houses, and it was unknown where in the hospital the Falun Gong practitioners were transferred. Many staff of the hospital discussed in private that these Falun Gong practitioners had been secretly transferred to the underground chambers of the hospital. According to some people working inside the hospital, the hospital has a huge system of secret underground chambers.

At the time when we went to work there, the person in charge of logistics and purchasing in the hospital said that the quantity of disposable sterile gloves used for operations and daily supplies that the hospital authorities asked to be purchased had increased dramatically. The logistics people estimated based on the scale of purchases at that time that there were at least 6,000 Falun Gong practitioners detained in this hospital.

These Falun Gong practitioners were not detained in the 4-story building under the in-patient department and administration at the front of the hospital, in order to keep the hospital staff from seeing them at all. We only occasionally saw Falun Gong practitioners being sent on a mobile intensive care bed to the first floor for physical examinations. These people were very weak. For the majority of the Falun Gong practitioners, nobody knew where they were being secretly kept. While they still did not know where these people were kept, some staff inquired to the hospital authorities about why so much food and so many sterile gloves and daily supplies were purchased. The hospital authorities said, "You only need to do your job well. There is no need for you to ask any other questions."

Starting in 2001, a family member of mine participated in organ-harvesting operations. My family member tried to keep me from knowing about this at the beginning. The hospital authorities selected doctors they trust in different aspects to perform the secretive operations. After a period of time, I found that my family member was in a lot pain, often had nightmares, and appeared panic-stricken. After repeated inquiries, this family member told me the truth. The leader of the hospital had asked my family member to participate in the organ harvesting operations on Falun Gong practitioners as early as 2001. It was 2003 when my family member confessed. A few years after, my family member felt so much pain from participating in this incident that it was impossible to continue with the evildoing. My family member decided to go abroad to get away from this matter.

My family member also told me: "you don't understand my suffering; those Falun Gong practitioners were alive. It might be easier for me if they were dead, but they were alive."

Question: Were there any other doctors from the hospital taking part in the operations of cutting out Falun Gong practitioners' organs?

Answer: I know there were some. All these things have been carried out secretly. Many doctors at our hospital involved were practicum doctors transferred from other hospitals. Because the government does not want to be responsible for Falun Gong practitioners' bodies and lives, their lives are treated as garbage by the regime, and their bodies were used in experiments by new doctors doing their practitcums.

Many doctors came and left the hospital because they suffered a lot after having been involved in these kinds of things. They either requested to be transferred to other places, or changed their names. Some might have been killed to eliminate the evidence, their identity files were taken out from the hospital's filing system, or their names were changed. Nobody knows where the doctors have gone.

The hospital staff all know that the rear part of the hospital is forbidden. It is always watched. The staff avoids talking about the place.

Question: It is said the hospital is equipped with an incinerator. The person whose organs were removed will be burned when he or she is still alive. Is that true?

Answer: The employees in our hospital call this place "the incinerator." Actually, it is a boiler room. Some poor farmers from nearby places were hired to work in the boiler room. They were penniless when they first came here. But they could scrape up some watches, finger rings, necklaces, and so on. The amount is not small. It is said by the employees in the hospital these jewelry and watches were collected from the Falun Gong practitioners whose organs had been removed when they were about to be thrown in the boiler to be burned. It is also said by the employees in the hospital, some were still alive when being thrown into the boiler.

Question: Do they get injection of anesthetic when in surgery?

Answer: Yes. There is a cap to the anesthetic quantity used in mainland China's hospitals. Generally, the supply of anesthetic was determined according to the accommodation of the hospital. To the public, the number of patients in our care appears to be very small, and publicly reported number of surgical procedures performed is quite low. But the equipment and articles used in surgery are abundant. Because the amount of anesthetic is limited, these secret surgeries could not use the normal anesthetic doses. In order to save anesthetic, they economized on the anesthetic used in surgeries on these Falun Gong practitioners. The amount of anesthetic used was very small. However, many whose organs were removed were still alive. You can imagine the pain suffered by the Falun Gong practitioners whose organs were removed.

Question: Are there any survivors among the 6,000 people detained since 2001?

Answer: Nobody has come out alive. The number of them gets smaller and smaller. The Falun Gong practitioners detained at Sujiatun are fewer now than before. But I believe that the sin of removing the organs of the Falun Gong practitioners is still continuing.

Question: Where are these organs usually sold to? Do the higher authorities in the government know about this?

Answer: They are mainly sold to Thailand, but I believe they are also sold to other regions of the world. Nowadays, there are many patients in China who need human skin, corneas, and kidneys for organ transplant surgeries. Many patients have to wait in line to purchase organs. Currently, a kidney can be sold up to the price of 30,000 to 100,000 U.S. dollars. The profit from selling organs is simply too great. The people who benefit from this are not only the top leaders of hospital and the officials of the Chinese Communist Party's Heath Department. This is a crime present across the entire nation. People ranging from government officials to doctors to organ sellers are all involved in this and are profiting greatly.

Question: Why did they target Falun Gong practitioners as the source of organs?

Answer: Because relatives of many Falun Gong practitioners don't even know that their family members were arrested. So if the Falun Gong practitioners are killed, there will be no one to come and claim their dead bodies.

Question: Why did you want to expose this? This may bring great danger to you.

Answer: I know that there are many Falun Gong practitioners who are currently detained at the hospital. I would like to expose this to the international community, so those who are not yet killed can be saved. Also, I would like to expose this as an atonement for my family.

I am not a Falun Gong practitioner. But as a former staff member of the hospital, I have the responsibility to expose the truth, and let the world to save those Falun Gong practitioners who are still alive. Organs of some Falun Gong practitioners are still living on patients' bodies. I would like to call on all society to pay attention to this issue and stop this shocking crime.

So we are to police/snitch on each other and do most of their dirty work for them. We can't stop self-appointed censors from turning people in, but...

...if you flag something, at some point an actual human being/Tribe employee will have to look at it and exercise their judgement as to whether it's obscene.

So if everybody starts randomly flagging like crazy, Tribe admin won't be able to keep up. They'll have to take away our ability to flag or else ignore the vast majority of flags. Either way they'll be unable to monitor the millions of images and billions of words hosted by Tribe.

I considered starting a tribe for this purpose called "Flaggots", but it works much better if people do it on their own. This means YOU.

i've got a lot of books. i've been churning through them lately, but find myself interested in reading all of the works by specifics authors, or books cited in others that i have read, which is a lot of books i haven't bought, or, in most cases, even been able to find in stores. so there goes the idea of a shoplifting-spree. shucks.

but i've been thinking of creating a sort of disorganized library, where books are traded, but really only loaned. say, i have a copy of this, and would like to read your copy of that. so, imagine posting all the books you would like to read. someone emails you saying they have a copy of what you're looking for while at the same time posting their wanted list. if you have something in their wanted list, or something which might be of similar interest, then a trade is made.

i'm already imaging the bookplate revolution. we've all go photoshopping skillz, r1t3? lol one of these days we may see an online library of bookplates (seriously, have you seen the bbs archives? it's fucking deja poo)

anyway, i'm in no condition to assemble such a list right now, it'd be far too much effort. but i'm sure someone out there has a copy of cosmic trigger 3, quantum psychology, crowley's book 4, the sandman series, or morrison's run on jla and xmen.

The Number 23 - Schumacher & Carrey

Director Joel Schumacher has signed on and Jim Carrey is in talks to join psychological thriller The Number 23 for New Line Cinema reports today’s trades.

The script, written by Fernley Phillips, follows a man who becomes obsessed and haunted upon reading a book that seems to be about his life but ends with a murder. The number 23 is woven throughout the plot.

Schumacher was previously attached but had put the project on the back burner to concentrate on “The Crowded Room”, but with that film now undergoing major re-writes, the time in his and Carrey’s schedules have opened up to fit in ‘23’ before they move on to ‘Crowded’ and Ben Stiller comedy “Used Guys” respectively.

Shooting begins November. This would mark the first time the pair have worked together since their earlier team-up on 1995’s “Batman Forever”.

The Zeigarnik effect states that people remember uncompleted or interrupted tasks better than completed ones.

Russian psychologist Bluma Zeigarnik first studied the phenomenon after noticing that waiters seemed to remember orders only so long as the order was in the process of being served.

Some suggest that students who wish to remember material better should leave learning unfinished when taking breaks, according to the effect. It is also suggested that the effect is behind the cliffhanger plot device.

KUALA TERENGGANU, Wed. - The "Sky Kingdom" sect led by Ariffin Mohamad has until Sunday to demolish illegal structures found at an oil palm plantation owned by the group in Kampung La, Besut. If they don't, the Besut District Council will seek a court order to demolish the structures, which include a large tea pot, a giant umbrella and a concrete boat.

District officer Wan Zahari Wan Ngah said they were deemed illegal as no such structures were allowed to be built on agriculture land.

"A notice has been issued as the land owner has violated the conditions on the use of the land. The one-month deadline is sufficient," he told the New Straits Times here today.

"What's a large teapot, giant umbrella and a concrete boat doing on agricultural land?"

Ariffin, better known as "Ayah Pin", and several of his followers were declared apostates by the court and spent two years in jail for deviant activities in 1998.

The sect became active in the early 1990s, with its operations centred on Kampung La.

Among the structures constructed by the group are a large pink teapot, a concrete replica of a longboat, a "palace" where followers gathered to chant, a large orange umbrella, bridges and a wakaf (shelter).

A follower who declined to reveal his name said the structures would not be demolished.

The man said Ayah Pin did not want to speak to the local media as he claimed newspapers had published "a lot of lies" about the group.

He said the sect leader had engaged a lawyer.

It is also why Thousand Island dressing is NOT good on frog's legs.
If Mary Ann and Ginger had cooked that frog and made frog's legs and put Thousand Gilligan Island dressing on them, it would never have led Gilligan to the underground pool of fresh water. Besides, they had no ketchup, and you can't make Thousand Island dressing even on Gilligan's Island with no ketchup (I don't like ketchup mostly. Sometimes but not mostly.). They had radioactive vegetables on the Island one time one time one time, but I don't think they had tomatoes. Mrs. Howell acted like a speed-freak when she ate those beets, and I thought that was funny! Beets are kind of purple but not red like tomatoes. You can not make ketchup out of beets, because purple ketchup is only served in Czechoslovakia, because that is what they make their ketchup and their borscht with.
Dwarves tend not to like tomatoes. I don't know whether midgets do or not.
Dwarves live under the mountains in the Hall of the Mountain King in Czechoslovakia, where they have purple borscht ketchup, but they never put it on frog's legs.

Frogs do not live in Czechoslovakia. They live in Rhode Island.

Then again, there is... Seattle.

In Seattle, they generally do not eat frog's legs. They have lots of vegetarians in Seattle. Sometimes they will eat radioactive vegetables, but only if they are aliens. (Aliens are from California, everybody says so.)
Mary Ann was not from Seattle. She was from Kansas. If she went to Seattle she would be an alien, but not an illegal one. Mary Ann had a license.
Superman was from Kansas, but he was an alien (but he is OK, and does not need a license). He was from Krypton. Krypton is radioactive, and is now in little bitty eensy-weensy pieces, and they are green. Frogs are also green.
Superman could eat radioactive frog's legs if he wanted to, or even radioactive vegetables. Gilligan ate radioactive spinach, and it gave him super-strength. Popeye eats regular spinach and it gives him super-strength.
Superman does not need to eat spinach of any kind to give him super-strength, because he is from Krypton, and already is super-strong. Except when you show him kryptonite, and then he gets weak.
I think maybe kryptonite is made from alien frogs. Alien frogs who ate radioactive spinach when they were little, from the time they were tadpoles. They eat so much of it that it dries them up into green crystals of kryptonite when they grow up.
Which is why (I think) they moved to Rhode Island.
Superman moved far far away from the radioactive-spinach-eating frogs, and went to Kansas as a baby. Evey once in a while, though, the kryptonese frogs find him anyway, which is too bad (I think they work for Luthor, and he tells those damn radioactive amphibians where to find Superman!)
Jimi Hendrix was a super guitarist, but I don't think he ever ate radioactive spinach to get his super-guitar-powers, or even radioactive frog's legs, because he lived in Seattle, where they do not eat radioactive frog's legs.
I think one time Jimi Hendrix was the Green Lantern one time, but maybe I'm wrong and it was his cousin from Czechoslovakia or something. I'm pretty sure Jimi Hendrix never went to Czechoslovakia, although he did go to Monterey. He set a guitar on fire. He also went to Woodstock.
If you ever go to Woodstock New York, do NOT take any of the Brown Acid (trust me on this one...).
Donovan wrote a song about Superman and Green Lantern, but I don't think he ever ate any of the radioactive frog's legs or radioactive spinach.
Donovan, I'm pretty sure, didn't come from Seattle.

I met a guy who lived with Eeyore (the head bock in charge) and recieved the transmission of the bock. literally.

In Space No One Can Hear You Vote Republican
Having recently come across a rather bountiful supply of high-quality rocket-fuel, we here in AAA Insurgent Cosmos are forced to admit that we haven't been paying as much attention to gravi-capital's recent imperialist adventure in Iraq as more terrestrial-minded revolutionaries. We've been far too busy exploring the myriad possibilities of independent, autonomous space-travel to follow the endless spins of the war-machine's all-pervasive propaganda apparatus. It goes without saying, though, that as at least somewhat earth-bound radicals, the more it tries to justify this unjustifiable war, the more outraged we are at seeing the natural organic unity of the human community desecrated further by elite interests once again.

We've also been busy following the situation in China with keen interest. Sadly enough, the recent forays into the cosmos on the part of a so-called "socialist" regime are likely to create a future scenario that allows the fascist forces of the right and the crypto-fascist forces of the left to collude and thus consolidate further their insidious monopoly on space-travel. The thought of humanity being held hostage yet again under the auspices of a new Cold War in space only serves to add fuel to our insurrectionary fire...which is another rant, of course. But, as you can see, having your head in the stars while having your feet planted firmly on the earth can be exhausting at times.

One event occurred recently, however, while gravi-capital's commander-in-chief was visiting his sycophantic understudy Tony Blair in England that quickly snapped our attention back planet-side. Faced with the international embarrassment of approximately 100 000 protestors marching through the streets of London in "honour" of his visit, good old Dubya committed the type of oratorical blunder that it seems American politicians are renowned for. After claiming that the military excursion in Iraq would usher in a wave of democracy in the Middle East, he got carried away with himself and actually called for an international democratic revolution (!!).

The slip, which must have made his PR men cringe, seems to have largely gone uncommented upon by gravi-capital's mainstream media. This is hardly surprising to us. We were, conveniently enough, reminded several times of how "lucky" we were to live in such a free and democratic society, where people are allowed to express even views that run counter to those of the State (and have them summarily ignored, incidentally). However, if Bush's inadvertent admission that Western-style representative democracy weren't enough, a more critical examination of the concept could possibly undermine gravi-capital's interests not only in Iraq, but in every nation on the planet.

The representative forms of democracy so loudly trumpeted by Bush and Blair is the democracy of elites. It is the process whereby the agents of gravi-capital robs those who live behind the walls of its various competing nation-states of their ability to both make the decisions that affect their lives and to effect desired changes in their immediate environments. In exchange for the dubious honour of having an extremely limited say in the political arena every four years or so, we surrender the right to have a voice in the countless affairs of everyday life that affect us in the interim, as well as in the other spheres of life. Electing affluent elites to govern over our lives and submitting to their rule of law, we are excluded from having any decision-making power in the broader social realm, such as the world of work, education, and applied technology (to name a few). Moreover, the nearly uniform and prefabricated platforms these elites devise for us allows them to both choose and limit our options for us. So, is it any wonder that he creation of genuine alternatives to the current social reality appears to be almost impossible? Along with everything else, gravi-capital has become the king of "that's-just-the-way-it-is." This overall dynamic epitomizes our collective and individual alienation as gravi-capital has monopolized control over almost all aspects of life, transforming life on earth into a planetary prison-house. A world dominated by war, poverty, and the dreary, meaningless slavery of waged-labour is the result, despite the fact that the vast majority of the planet's inhabitants desire something altogether different.

Clearly then, like so many of the other central concepts that earth-bound society in its dotage operates on, democracy has become formal rhetoric, a meaningless term used to mask ulterior motives and interests. Even in the West, most people hold professional politicians and the system they represent in such utter contempt that the media spectacle has to launch massive propaganda campaigns in order to cajole a disaffected electorate into voting. This doesn't stop voter turn-out from plummeting in most "advanced" industrialized nations. Meanwhile, in gravi-capital's colonies (known popularly as the developing world), people have to either submit to outright tyranny or be led by gunpoint to the ballot-box to elect whatever regional warlord who has amassed the most military backing from competing imperialist masters. The burgeoning resistance on the part of the Iraqis to the imposition of gravi-capital's much-vaunted "democracy" may, in fact, be another sign that all over the planet the sheep are beginning to look up (to paraphrase AAA forerunner John Brunner).

The nascent and near-universal disgust with the democratic illusion will only prove fruitful, however, if it is the starting-point for the creation of alternatives. We here in AAA Insurgent Cosmos, like George W. Bush, also hope to see an international democratic revolution, albeit of a radically different sort. We'd like to see flower a movement that involves everyday people around the world bypassing gravi-capital's politicos, bosses, and bureaucrats to take direct control of their workplaces, communities, and their natural environment in its totality. It is time that the people of this planet translated their current apathy towards blatant tyranny and desecrated forms of democracy into the creation of decision-making processes that are consensual, direct, and participatory. And, if these structures are respectful of the principles of decentralization and autonomy, we could create a truly free planetary democracy worthy of the name.

That would be a monumental step towards abolishing the iron-grip of gravi-capital over our lives and the environment we live in. And maybe then we could also end its insidious control over space-travel, and thereby empower each and every person on the planet to explore their destiny among the stars. Never being ones to think small, we here in AAA Insurgent Cosmos are going to actually call for a radically different democratic revolution, one that is not just international but cosmic in scope. All that grade-A rocket-fuel must have enhanced our visionary prowess. So, we hope to see you in space, cosmonaut...where there are no ballot boxes.

Ultra-Left Marxist Theory of a Different Sort
Eastern Europe has always exerted a certain fascination upon me. As a teenager, I was obsessed ith the real historical persona behind Bram Stoker's Dracula character (Vlad the Impaler), as well as Countess Bathory, who used to bathe in the blood of virgins. (Yeah, death-metal was more of a formative influence than I'd like to admit) Later on, as a young Marxist, I became absorbed in studying the history and culture of the people of Hungary. I had a desire to discover exactly what it was in the air at that time (1958, naturally) that led the Hungarian working-class to rise against Soviet imperialism and colonialism and fight for direct worker's control of their workshops and the almost total abolition of the wage system (within a national context). These notions were, of course, properly 'communist,' but went completely against the grain of the dominant socialist ideologies at the time. I never did come up with a theory before my hormones kicked in and I discovered healthier obsessions for a lad my age. Mind you, when Vaclav Havel, a former memeber of a Zappaesque prog-rock group, rose to political prominence and eventually seized power in Czechoslovakia, I once again took notice of those kooky eastern Europeans. Just what in the name of the Goddess did they put in the drinking water over there?

Well, recently I came across this little article, thanks to a link from the might Cathy at Peking O. It's about a Czechoslovakian composer who gets his inspiration from mushrooms. By that I don't mean that he goes out to sit amongst the mushrooms then goes home to write the music he hears in his head after this period of contemplative bliss. Nope. It seems that mushrooms grow everywhere in this part of the world, so going out to pick them is a popular and widespread cultural activity there. This man, whose name is Vaclav Halek, claims that one day on such trek with a friend he was quite amazed to discover that the mushrooms actually sang melodies to him that only he can hear. I shit you not. So, it's a simple matter of him going out to sit amongst the profusion of wild fungi with his notebook and transcribing on the spot the melodies the mushrooms sing to him. The man has written a series of pieces ranging from film scores to full symphonies that he attributes not to his native compositional talent, but to the beloved mushrooms of his homeland.

And finally, after all these years a theory is beginning to suggest itself...

The always intriguing French ultra-left Marxist Jacques Camatte seemed to feel that if there was ever going to be a revolution of the sort envisioned by so many traditional leftists, it was not likely to take place in the exact way they imagined. According to traditional notions of Marxist-inspired thought, the international industrial proletariat was supposed to, in a relatively instantaneous fashion, organize itself in order to directly confront and destroy state power, while simultaneously seizing control of society's productive apparatus and beginning to socialize it. Camatte, however, felt that this was a pipe-dream, an outdated and leftover vision of 19th century rationalism. In fact, he felt that there was absolutely no need for self-defined revolutionaries to waste their energies organizing in order to instigate for and effect the social changes they wished to see occur. As the torturously oppressive conditions of life created by capital became more widespread and universally felt in their myriad forms, people would naturally and largely unself-consciously begin to resist them and begin to gradually transform human culture in its entirety.

Naturally, many revolutionaries and activists find his position irksome because it clearly negates their influence and diminishes the importance of the activities undertaken by most revolutionary groups. He insisted that, independently of the various ideological "mafias," the revolution was already underway, its transformative power churning constantly just below the visible threshold of our increasingly global culture, latent in repressed human desire. And whereas most socialist agitators confined their critiques and activities to the realm of political economy, Camatte, in contrast, felt that the revolution would be, indeed MUST be, total and abolish the burgeoning dominance of capital over the collective life and being of humanity in all its aspects. His vision certainly encompassed the more materialistic socio-political realm, but also extended to seemingly apolitical arenas of human activity as the cultural and spiritual. It was his ultimate assertion that the real communist revolution would be so profound in its implications that it would be cosmic in scope.

We in AAA Insurgent Cosmos salute this largely forgotten theorist and visonary, whom we regard as a seminal influence, a spiritual predecessor and advisor, and a cosmic comrade worthy of a revival.
